Recently, we had a gathering of members to discussion the 2009 sailing season.  It was great to see everyone after the long winter season.  Thanks Dave T for your hospitality.

 News..

    - VOA Metro Park will be our venue for the season (see map and directions http://regatta1.com/cmyc/location.php)

    - Sailing would be every other Wednesday (6pm) weather permitting

    - We will set up a Spring, Summer, and Fall series and score as in previous years.  Must have a three boat minimum to constitute a race.

    - We agree to attend the event at Ceasar’s Creek so as to promote the sport/hobby.  Thanks for the invite Scott.

    - Season would commence April 7th (weather permitting)

Here is a very brief overview. Designed in 1986 by a Japanese naval architect, the CR 914 is a high-performance racing sloop that resembles the International America’s Cup Class boats of that era. CR stands for “cup racer;” the hull is 914 millimeters (36 inches) long – about 1/25th of the size of its IACC equivalent (and you can sail one for less than 1/100,000th of the cost of waging an America’s Cup campaign).

The US CR 914 class organization was established in 1994. Dedicated to the philosophy of true one-design racing, our class rules ensure that every boat, professionally built or assembled from a kit, will be able to perform as well as the boats the champions sail. More than 1,500 CR 914s are currently registered in the US. They are raced by teen-agers and octogenarians, by beginning sailors and national, international and Olympic sailing champions, in more than 25 active fleets from coast to coast, and our annual Larchmont CR 914 Spring Invitational is the largest single-class RC regatta in the country.

Our club will be on display 11am through 5pm this Saturday at the Caesar Creek Festival.  Come join us on the beach for some sailing fun.  Our club members will be happy to share our boats giving you the opportunity to enjoy the hobby of radio control sailing.  For State Park information and directions click here.

If you can’t catch us at the festival be sure to stop by Monday evenings at Cottell Park in Mason at 6pm.

The club is a ‘One-Design Class’ based on the CR 914.  ”One-design” means that all the boats in a class are built and regulated to be as close to identical as possible.  

Why sail? 

Get Away - Then there is the “relaxation” sailor that uses his boat to get away from the free-for-all of daily life.  

Family - A model sailboat is a special treat for the family. Easy to own, easy to control, and harmless to play with.

Learning - Model sailboats provide the ultimate learning tool. You quickly learn sailing basics in just an hour or so, and if you chose to learn more, your model is the perfect learning tool.

Camaraderie - Building or buying a model sailboat is the price of admission into one of the oldest clubs in the world. Sailors love to gather, look over each other’s boats, and tell tall tales about their sailing adventures.

Racing Challenge - With the advent of reliable and easy to use radio control equipment, and model sailboats that look and act like the real thing, racing has taken a major step forward. Precise handling challenges the most seasoned racer. Model sailing clubs provide the structure for competition and the education to compete at a higher level. Entry level racing is found in all sailing clubs.

The Hobbyist - There are those that participate as a hobbyist, finding much of their enjoyment in the construction and display of a model boat.

All of the Above - So what does this all mean? Whether you enjoy building and displaying a boat, a relaxing sail to bring you back to nature, or you want to compete for the national championship, there is a place for you in model sailing. And don’t forget the camaraderie of all those that enjoy the art of sailing. 

We had a great time Monday evening at the park.  The wind was healthy and the water was clear and free of weeds.  All in all it was a great evening and a lot of very good sailing.  Hope to you see next week.

Includes everything you need to build the boat. One piece Hull/Deck, Keel, Rudder, Two Channel Radio w/Rudder and Sail Winch servo, Mast, CA Glue, Upgrade Kit w/new and improved building instructions, West System epoxy, micro balloons, sails, and a stand. The only thing you will need is your choice of paint and batteries ( 12 - AA size Alkaline or NiCad batteries). April 13 2008 Race Results

If you are interested in radio control sailing come out to Cottell Park Saturday 19th of April. 

The uniqueness of radio control sail boats is that they depend on the wind for their propulsion and speed. The radio controller allows you to maneuver the boat’s direction by guiding the rudder, but there is no power motor on any RC sailboats.

The Cincinnati Model Yacht Club will be racing at the park through out the day.  Racing will start promptly at 11am.  The club races the CR914 Class of sailboat which is a  high-performance racing sloop that resembles the International America’s Cup Class boats of that era.
